Below you'll find answers to some of the questions are are asked most
frequently about web design and graphics. If you have a question and
don't see the answer here, contact us and we'll do our best to answer you.

1. What do I need to get online?

The very first things you need are a domain name and hosting. Your domain name is, basically, your online name, which is rented from year to year from a "registrar." You pay a yearly fee to your registrar to use this name.

Hosting is something entirely different. Hosting is a service, provided by a hosting company, that makes your website's files available for viewing on the internet. Most people also pay for hosting on a yearly basis (though some folks pay month-to-month).

Many times, a hosting company also handles the yearly renewal of their clients' domain names. This way, the hosting companies roll the yearly domain name registration and the hosting fees into a single package, a single expense, that is due once a year.

Once you have your domain name and hosting set up, we can help you build your site.

We recommend Lunarpage for hosting.

2. Why do my photos load so slowly?

If you have created your own website and your photos load slowly, it's probably because they are larger than necessary and it's taking awhile for them to be delivered to the page by the server. For best results with photos, use a photo editing program like Photoshop Elements to trim them to the correct pixel size at 72 or 96 dpi before you upload them.
